District Evaluation System

To oversee the development and implementation of the district's educator evaluation system, West Essex utilizes School Improvement Panels (ScIP) at both the Middle and High Schools. ScIP responsibilities include, but are not limited to: ensuring that evaluation procedures are properly implemented and identifying PD opportunities for staff members. The ScIPs meet independently in their respective buildings and jointly as a district. ScIPs replaced Professional Development Committees.

As of 2021, the following state-approved rubrics are used to evaluate West Essex staff:

  • Danielson Framework for Teachers
  • Danielson Rubrics for Media Specialists and Speech Therapists
  • West Essex/Danielson Group Customized Rubric for Case Managers and School Psychologists
  • New Jersey School Counselors Association (NJSCA) for School Counselors
  • ASCD Nurse Rubric for School Nurses
  • Athletic Trainers' Society of New Jersey (ATSNJ) for Athletic Trainers
  • Multidimensional Leaders Performance Rubric (MLPR) for Assistant Principals
  • New Jersey Principal Evaluation for Professional Learning (NJPEPL) for Principals
  • Customized NJPEPL for Directors
  • Customized Danielson Rubric for Instructional Supervisors

The district utilizes the Genesis Employee online platform to manage all aspects of the staff evaluation process including observations, SGOs, PDPs, and summative evaluations.
