Ahern Alberto plays for Seniors

On Wednesday, December 5th, area Senior Citizens were treated to breakfast and entertainment by West Essex High School Students.  Ms Boymann’s Culinary classes cooked, set up and served the breakfast. Culinary II classes were responsible for most of the cooking and serving for the event while Culinary I classes played a hugely supportive role in preparing and filling in where needed during the weeks building up to the event. Senior, Madison Santaromita is an independent study student who acted in a supervisory role under the mentoring of Ms. Boymann.

When the Guests arrived  they were greeted by students and led to tables set with poinsettias.  At each place setting was a parfait of fruit and yogurt for each guest as well as a variety of muffins made by the students.  Students served coffee, tea, and water as requested. The breakfast menu, served by students, consisted of a Blended Cheese Frittata topped with caramelized onions and sauteed red peppers, Spinach in cream sauce, and Rosti (Swiss potato hash browns).

The orchestra, led by Ms. Caitlin Shroyer , played as guests got settled and ate their first course.

While the Culinary students plated food and served the guests, music students provided entertainment throughout the morning. After the orchestra played, student Ahern Alberto played piano music, followed by songs by both the women’s a cappella group, “The Chordettes and the men’s group, “No Girls Aloud”. Both Choirs are directed by Ms. Donna Mateyka.  The breakfast entertainment concluded with a performance by the Varsity Dance Team.

After breakfast the guests were ushered into the auditorium for performances by the West Essex High School Orchestra, Women’s Choir, Concert Choir, Symphonic Winds, and the final selection was “Sleigh Ride’’ which combined Symphonic Winds and Concert Band.
