Shag 86 and Caremark/CVS thanked by BOE.

At the January 31st board meeting the board of education recognized three local businesses that have partnered with our special services department.  These businesses help to provide job opportunities to classified students that are in our 18-to 21-year -old program. Mrs. Tania Symmons, director of special services, and Mrs. Gabriella Bauer, transitions coordinator, presented the awards to Caremark/CVS, Pomptonian Food Service, and Shag 86.  These companies have partnered with West Essex to provide students with onsite work experience. Students who have completed their academic requirements but require life skills and job coaching can now remain in-district to complete their education.

According to Mrs. Bauer “It starts with little jobs and then confidence is built” .  Bauer said that many of the students have procured employment with the business after their internships ended and have become “part of the team and not just on the sidelines.”  The companies help provide students with the opportunities they need to be as successful as possible.
