Leading up to Winter Break, it’s been a Winter Wonderland at West Essex! From holiday parties, ugly sweater contests, and gingerbread house competitions, there’s been no lack of exciting events going on in our halls.
The Guidance Department hosted its annual Winter Wellness event. Students were invited during their lunch block to participate in a series of games and activities that required some problem solving and thinking outside the box! Students also had the opportunity to vote on their favorite gingerbread house in a competition being hosted by the Cooking for a Cause club. After visiting every station, students were invited to enjoy a snow cone or cookie.
The Italian Club also hosted some holiday festivities with its annual Italian Club Holiday’s Party! Students played tombola (Italian Bingo), shared treats, and played the much-anticipated musical chairs. Buone feste from the Italian Club!
The MS Art students under the direction of Mrs. Dawn Massa had the opportunity to decorate the front doors of the school! The beautiful artwork greets the students every morning as they come in. Amazing job!
The WEuKnight Peer Leadership Program brought holiday cheer to the freshman class with a spirited gingerbread house-making competition on Thursday. Senior Peer Leaders and their freshman groups collaborated to create dazzling, candy-filled creations while bonding over lunch. Adding to the festive atmosphere, members of the high school band, led by Band Director Ms. Elise McAloon, performed lively holiday music throughout the event, spreading joy and enhancing the holiday spirit. The competition was judged by school administrators Ms. Hoebee, Dr. Westervelt, Mr. Walsh, and Ms. Fernicola, who were impressed by the creativity and teamwork on display. Winners will be announced in the New Year and celebrated with a special pizza lunch. The event highlighted the importance of connection, collaboration, and creativity, embodying the WEuKnight Program's mission to foster community and leadership.
