Superintendent's Message-Weather Procedures
Posted on 12/14/2020

Dear West Essex Families,

As we enter the winter season, we must prepare for the possibility of inclement weather.  Since our schools are now operating within one bell schedule, we can easily go from in-person learning to fully remote instruction for either unsafe weather conditions or COVID-19 related issues.

Due to the circumstances this year, our District will not conduct a delayed opening schedule for inclement weather.  In the case where snow accumulation would typically warrant a delayed start, we now will simply transfer to fully remote learning.  However, our current ending time of 12:17 pm will allow our early dismissal schedule to remain the same, and in the event a storm begins while schools are in session, we can dismiss students and staff for safe travel home.  If weather conditions are severe enough, the afternoon block in these situations may be cancelled.

If weather events produce significant snow accumulation, power outages, or other hazardous conditions, we will continue to utilize emergency days (snow days) as needed. Cancellations can happen the morning of school; although, I will try to make those decisions as early as possible, keeping student and staff safety as a priority.

Our school communication system will send notifications via voice, text, and email for any changes to the school schedule.  In addition, our website’s main page will be updated under Announcements.  You can also subscribe to the West Essex Regional School District Facebook page:

Stay safe and be well.
