Dear West Essex Families,

I wanted to inform you of a construction project that began in late July, 2019 to replace the New Dutch Lane Bridge that crosses over the Deepavaal Brook in Fairfield. The existing bridge will be completely removed and renovated. According to the Essex County Department of Public Works, the project is expected to last approximately five months.

Please note the following:

- Access to Kaplan Drive and Eldridge Road will be maintained.
- Access to all businesses will be maintained.
- A pedestrian bridge will be installed for pedestrians/bicyclists.
- Detour Route: Fairfield Road and Passaic Avenue.

The school district has been in contact with our transportation providers. They are aware of the bridge closure and have made appropriate adjustments to their bus routes. Also, the drivers will conduct practice runs prior to the start of the school year. If you may be impacted by this construction, please plan accordingly as the detour may cause increased traffic and delays in the surrounding areas. I thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation.

 Sincerely,

 Damion Macioci

Superintendent of Schools
