State Assessments (Start Strong, NJSLA, NJSGPA)

Beginning in the fall 2021, the New Jersey Start Strong assessments will be administered to students as a replacement for NJSLA which were canceled for the 2020-2021 school year. Students in the following grades/subjects will be required to take the assessment in October:
ELA - grades 7-10
Math - grades 7, 8, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II
Science - grades 9 and 12
Start Strong is an online assessment that takes 45-60 minutes for students to complete (excluding test accommodations for students with approved IEP/504 plans). Students will receive scores from 1-3. The score is meant to indicate a student's readiness for his/her current Math, ELA, and/or Science course.
Level 1: Strong support may be needed.
Level 2: Some support may be needed.
Level 3: Less support may be needed.
Parents will receive Individual Student Reports (ISR) in each subject area that their child tests in. More information about the Start Strong assessment and ISRs can be found here.

The New Jersey Student Learning Assessments (NJSLA) are scheduled to return this Spring. Students in the following grades/subjects will be required to take the NJSLA in May:
ELA - grades 7-9
Math - grades 7-9
Science - grades 8 and 11
On NJSLA, students are scored on a scale of 1-4. The score is meant to indicate the student's level of mastery of the ELA, Math, and/or Science courses taken. Parents will receive Individual Student Reports (ISR) in each subject area that their child tests in.

A new 11th grade New Jersey State Graduation Proficiency Assessment (NJSGPA) was recently approved by the NJDOE and will be administered to juniors beginning this March. Details of the new graduation assessment are yet to be released.
