    The West Essex High School Physical Education Program is intended to be active, fostering personal fitness, wellness, knowledge and skill acquisition throughout one’s lifespan.  The students will participate in a variety of indoor and outdoor sports and activities. The goals from these physical activities include developing muscular strength and muscular endurance, improving flexibility and cardiovascular endurance, and enhancing self-confidence, while learning rules and applying practiced skills in both team and individual sports and activities.    

    Skill enhancing drills are used to foster individual skill development.  Rules, guidelines, safety orientations, and games and participation modifications are experienced.  While activity, skill, and knowledge are emphasized through dynamic participation, personal fitness is stressed within each unit.

    In Health and Physical Education our students realize the benefits of fitness, responsible leadership, and personal fulfillment.  We will provide students with educational experiences that enable them to practice and develop skills in communication, problem-solving, and decisions making, personal health. We will guide all students in discovering their unique talents in order to reach their potential and foster a commitment to a lifetime of personal wellness. Our mission to encourage students to start moving and continue exercise through adulthood. We expose our students to a wide variety of activities anticipating they find enjoyment in exercise, as it is pivotal part of overall wellness.
