Guidance

The Guidance/Student Services staff is an important and integral part of the professional team providing services to students, parents and teachers in the West Essex Regional School District. Students in the junior high are assigned to counselors by grade level. Students in the senior high are assigned to counselors alphabetically according to their last name and remain with the same counselor for three years. The guidance counselor provides continuity throughout the student’s career at both the junior high school and the senior high school. Students are encouraged to keep in close contact with their counselor.

Students who are experiencing problems dealing with any form of substance abuse may in confidence consult with a special student assistance counselor. Counselors provide educational and career counseling and are available to discuss every aspect of student’s life – school and home, teacher and student, college and school, and student programs. Guidance activities are provided through both individual and group counseling programs.

Throughout the school year guidance counselors meet with students and parents to review mutual concerns. Counselors are always available to answer questions and address concerns related to students’ individual goals.
