West Essex High School offers a comprehensive athletic program comprised of both team and individual sports and is affiliated with the following athletic organizations in New Jersey: 

• New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association
• Essex County Athletic Directors Association
• Iron Hills Conference (Hills Division)
• New Jersey Interscholastic Hockey League
• Northern New Jersey Boys Volleyball League
• New Jersey Interscholastic Lacrosse League

An athlete must pass a pre-season physical examination prior to participation and must meet the following academic requirements to be eligible to compete in interscholastic athletics: 

• Fall and winter athletes must pass 27.5 credits the previous school year
• Spring athletes must be passing 13.75 credits during the fall and winter semesters to be eligible
